Dear Mom and Dad,

The phones were unbelievably crowded this afternoon.  I just couldn't see waiting in line all afternoon even though I wanted to talk to you all.

I got your letters.  Thanks Mom!  Also I dropped Hank a line.  The YMCA will probably be real good for him.

Haven't yet found what weapon I'm going to specialize in.  I think I'm getting mortars.  I was supposed to find out yesterday but Uncle Sam’s Misled Children never know anything until it happens.  Oh well.  I’m spit shining my boots, getting ready for Sea School already.  Only nine more trading days and I'll leave Company Alpha.  My buddy, Jack Jenner, who is also going to Sea School, [‘s] wife had a baby boy on Thursday.  He's strutting like a proud rooster.  I don't blame him.

Do you have any pictures of anything?  I sure like to see some of you all.

I'm getting tired of playing John Wayne everyday.  I'm ready to come home for a little R&R.  Ruxton will wake up when I get home!

Last night we saw a movie, Poncho Villa, and we have another one tonight.  Entertainment is up to par!

The C-rations are better than the chow at the mess hall.  We were marching all week in this humid heat, soft sand but lots of motivation.  If you are crazy enough you can make a game out about it.

Tell Tom not to do anything or sign anything until I get home.  I've got some good scoop for him if he really wants to join.

Next Sunday I get out for the day!  A friend is getting me, Bill and Jack out for the day.  We are going to Myrtle Beach.  I can almost taste the wet cold beer now.

I've almost stopped smoking.  I'm now 5 a day now.  The only thing that may start me up again is getting out of here.   I'll probably say the hell with it and start up again.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Love,

Pete

P.S. I still have that bank order.  Doing OK!

P.S. Give my love to Angie.
